My 2016 Garden Thread

I think the bat guano is for phosphorous or potassium. Steer manure is going to mostly be nitrogen N. That’s what I used in mine too… just cheap composted manure, $1.25 a bag.

Yeah but it will come in handy for gunpowder when the mussies come. LOL

Container tomatoes and peppers, just transplanted them a few days ago and they’re looking a little yellow, they have grown a little already. It has been raining every day but I’ll probably give them a little diluted urine once they’re dry enough to water. I might do some more containers.

Bed of peppers… most of these appear to be doing pretty well in the shitty cheap top soil. I counted 39 plants when I was out there earlier.

That’s some good looking soil. Is that the super soil you made?

The stuff in the containers is, I hope it’s not toxic to the plants. The bed is a few inch layer of cheap top soil over compost from my pile, on top of old logs, branches and sticks.

Free wood chips at the local composting place, I’m going to start wood chipping the backyard. Looks like the best and easiest way to weed free garden from what I’ve seen. Wish I had a truck.

Wood chips are great for weed control. I get them free as well and use the free ones in the backyard. I buy the dyed ones from Lowes for the front yard. I get them for like $5 for 10 huge bags. Beats the hell out of $5 for one bag of river rock.

Yeah, I don’t think it’s a good idea to put them up against the house out here though because of termites… I’ve got this herb that’s supposed to be Oregano that I think is Thyme that I’m going to spread all along the house as much as possible. I dug it up and brought it here when I moved here a few years ago, it’s huge now and totally takes up the area like a groundcover but a little taller and weeds can’t compete.

My back yard has become a fukking weed orgy. Normally, I wouldn’t care, but I don’t want those bitches infesting my crops.

Make sure they’re treated with slow-decmposition or they’ll suck all the nitrogen out of your soil.

Post a video. Some lawn pron would liven this place up.

I don’t want my stuff treated with anything, then that treatment shit goes into your soil. I’ve used a lot of wood in garden beds, mounds etc. using a style similar to what they call “hugelkultur” and haven’t ever had any bad nitrogen problems. In fact I think the wood improves it with increased earthworm activity which = free EWC.

If you’re adding material rich in nitrogen, for example grass clippings, that would cover the N issue.

I’ve been adding a little alfalfa too, I’m going to start growing more alfalfa just for the N and it gives the rabbits something to feast on.

This is the direction I’m going to try to head in with the gardens. Gotta get on the mulch next week.

No video, but here’s a few stills…

I put all my effort into the front yard. Not fukking weed.

That’s a nice fucking lawn! How many barrels of Monsanto have you sprayed over that shit?

Round Up is too expensive. Plenty of Ortho and Vigoro though. I’m still having a problem with that gopher though. Found 2 new holes today. I may have to just call a guy to deal with him.

My AK 49 Auto Flowers are struggling a bit. I have the feeling these particular plants are more suited for an indoor garden. Maybe a week of solid sun will pep them up. The LSD 25 Auto Flower has only been outside for a few days, but is looking strong. The White Widow is doing very good, but the OG Kush is just kicking ass. Those 2 are going to be fukking trees if they don’t bloom until October.
