Sully knew he could make it back
Sully knew if he was off by 300 feet everyone would die
Sully put it in the river cause that was the best idea

Exactly, MAYBE he could have made it back but unlike maybe an airfield in Kansas somewhere this one was surrounded with high population areas.

I didn’t see the movie but reading the local news on this which was incessant, I knew they were pissed but I’ve always supported his decision from day 1

The NTSB was pissed the movie made it like a trial - the NTSB was worried that people would clam up in future investigations if they thot that the case
Again, the NTSB hated the movie for making the inquiry a trial - they said they only want to know what happened to help in the future
the NTSB was on Sullys side (in the real world)
I think if the NTSB has the power to execute the movie producers they would all be dead

Wouldn’t have been much of a movie, without some dramatics.
I woulda watched it just for the landing.
In the movie the final simulation crashed into a building
They gave 0 seconds after the bird strike to do anything but turn back right away
Sully sez you need time to fucking think - so they gave him 31 seconds for thinking
All the sims then crash with the 31 seconds used for figuring time subtracted
