My best friend’s Dad is American so she had “dual”. When she moved from Canada to the US, the US made her renounce her Canadian citizenship to become an American citizen. They don’t recognize her as dual.

That said, in Canada you cannot renounce your citizenship. Once a Canadian, always a Canadian so that make her a dual citizen.

Thank you. It changed in 1967.

My experience was limited and only applies to those applying for citizenship to the US where you renounce your other country’s citizenship.
