Ebony’s not gonna take any more oil than it already has. No pores… won’t even float on water.

I had a guitar once from Washburn that had Macassar ebony back & sides, but they were plywood, mahogany with an ebony overlay. Striking look for sure, a lot of bite to its voice, but kind of “snarly.” And the black ebony from the Gaboon, no way are you bending it.

English yew, the stuff of legend, turns out to be pretty mediocre except in a solid wood classic longbow. Here in North America, the champion bow wood is “hedge” (Osage orange) but it’s pricey. Other good NA choices are white ash, northern red oak, and maybe some hickories, all of which are plentiful.
