Today’s puzzle is SO simple and SO elegant. White to move.
That’s a good one!
Why can’t black move its rook to a8? wouldn’t that capture the newly promoted?
Because white has the move and A8 does no good
it’s over
White – Black
e6-e7 – e8xf7 – white moves pawn, black bishop takes rook
f5-e6 – a5-a8 – white bishop pins black bishop. Why not black moves rook to threaten e8?
Remember I suck at this
Because after rook to a8
g6 to f7 opens the gates of hell
Rook to a8 does prevent the immediate mate on the 8-rank, but after black takes the bishop with his f pawn (with check) Black must move his king away and white trades one pawn for the rook and promotes the second pawn, leaving an easy win.
I see it now. This is why I suck at chess, I can’t see two moves ahead.
FIREWORKS on the chessboard
(White to move)
This is so cool.
PRO TIP: When I looked at it this morning, I thought “OFFS…Black has 2 pawns and if he moves his queen to f6 and commands the long diagonal, there’s no fkn way I’ll get a draw outta this.” SO, I THEN ASKED MYSELF, “Is there maybe a swindle to be had here?”
Yeah, there is as it turns out.
That’s a good one!
My chess friend Rene just iced a 1540 player with this - the fucking guy lives to do this
BWAAA hAAAA HAAAAAH
I’m like Fuuuuck… I got nothing…gotta trade off both my pieces to stop that pawn promotion, and he still has 2 minors for a theoretical win if he can make it stick.
I hadda play thru the first 2 moves before I even SAW the heartbreaker of White’s fourth move: …Kh5
Now if Black moves the knight to safety it still controls h4 —stalemate.
And if Black moves anything else, I eat the knight and it’s dead drawn.
Wow!
Had one the other day where my king was against a knight and bishop and I play the guy a lot.
I know he don’t know how to do it, so I tell him
It can be done, but not by you
almost went 50 before draw by rep
Yeah, it can be done but it don’t do itself.
Run to the corner what ain’t the color of the bishop
