Interesting design

Saw this on Facebook. Beautiful reclaimed wood.

But a spiral staircase made on pivots and turnbuckle? Why…
I assume stepping on one side loads the turnbuckle and unloads the other side ever so slightly. Although they’re probably preloaded so I’m curious how well that works.

Looks over engineered.

I agree it’s over-engineered, making it a waste of money. The only advantage I can see is, it eliminates the center post and moves the spiral beam inboard, but then one doesn’t have the spiral beam on the outboard end of the steps to support a handrail and balusters for infant safety.

In addition, the choice of lumber and finish is deplorable since the visual cues are too busy and it’s hard to see where one step ends and the other begins.

Just set it on fire, already.
