100 milliseconds is 7 feet at 50MPH - all the difference

One of my Grandpas built roads and HIghways, including some good chunks of I5 in Northern Cal. He saw some freak accident with a pick up with a bunch of guys in the back going on a supply run, when a tree fell off a cut through on a hillside and crushed the guys in back, That’s why Grandpa never owned a pickup. (Yeah I know, but that was his take away from it)
Sadly, I had a cousin who died like that.
OTOH, three friends of mine in high school were riding in the back of a pickup. (On their way to a basketball game.)
Oncoming car spun out on a patch of ice, head-onned their pickup. The driver and his wife were killed, the three in back went into a semiballistic orbit and landed without a scratch in a snow bank.
