So I have a decision to make

I’ve been offered a job. It starts as part-time,
28 hours a week, for a month. Then goes to
full-time. There are benefits, after a month
of being full-time.

Assembly, electronic device. A 4-year old
company that makes a devise that
detects high-voltage power lines.

It pays a little less than my last job.
It requires that I commute.

There are less than 25 people at the company.

The most off-putting thing is the commute.
I haven’t had to get on a freeway, daily,
for over 20 years, and I don’t miss it.

I don’t need to take the job right now.
Financially, I’m good for at least 6 months
before I need to worry.

Do I take the job, or keep looking?

Tough call. The pandemic would be a factor in my decision, if it were my decision.

Which option is the least painful? How would you feel if you did both, and then left this job if a better one came along?

I think it would be unfair to them.

They’re looking to do a major re-design
of their product over the next year.

Tough call, but as they say a bird in the hand etc etc

I’ll give it a solid month.

But I’ll keep looking for something
closer to home in the mean time.

It will off set most of my bills, and
extend my “no stress” time by
another month.

Tomorrow I go in to do the hiring
paperwork, and I’ll start on wednesday.

I think I might take it, it’s only part-time for a month. Have you worked in this kind of field before? It might open new opportunities for you in the future.

My guess is commuting in Idaho is nothing like commuting here. On a good day, I can make it 6 miles in 20 minutes. And those are fewer than I would like.

You guys ain’t getting rid of me that easily. But’ll
be less often.

I’ve done manufacturing for 6.5 years now,
but it was all plastics. Not electronics.

Commuting is a big problem in the winter for
the weather. My problem is that while I
was NOT driving on freeways the speed
limit went up to 70 mph. A little fast for
my tastes. But I’ll give it a shot. For now.

Right, I forget about the snow. Hmmm, does the company expect they’ll be expanding even with this downturn in the economy?

They’re a young optimistic company
that’s enjoyed a steady increase in
business.

Safety equipment is a good business
to be in. And they’re the only ones who
make this particular device. Their own
invention. If they can keep producing,
they’ll do well. Anyone that uses high
voltage is a potential customer. From
utilities to manufacturers.

Sounds good. Wish you the best of luck with whatever you decide.

Thanks.

Could use some good luck.

I own lots of electrical testing devices. I’m curious, what’s the name of the company? Maybe an inappropriate question. The thing is about these devices, if they’re broken or giving false readings, the user could end up dead. Best of luck with this company.

Safeguard Equipment.

I start tomorrow.
