Jewish Haiku
On Passover we
Opened the door for Elijah.
Now our dog is gone.
Jewish Buddhism:
If there is no self,
Whose arthritis is this?
Beyond Valium,
Peace is knowing one’s child
Is an internist.
After the warm rain
The sweet smell of camellias.
Did you wipe your feet?
Her lips near my ear,
Aunt Sadie whispers the name
Of her friend’s disease.
Today I am a man
Tomorrow I will return
To the seventh grade.
Testing the warm milk
On her wrist, she sighs softly
But her son is forty.
The sparkling blue sea
Reminds me to wait an hour
After my sandwich.
Jews on safari –
Map, compass, elephant gun,
Hard sucking candies.
The same kimono
The top geishas are wearing:

Mom, please! There is no

The journey of a thousand miles

The Buddha says there is no self.
So, maybe we’re off the hook.

Actually that verse applies to Adam, who wasn’t actually born. The passage I use is the one from Exodus, wherein if a miscarriage occurs due to some act, the punishment is whatever the husband deems it to be; essentially it is reduced to a property issue.

Just curious what use you make of that. Not looking for a theological dispute, really.
Shockingly a quick search I find a liberal xtian page that says life at 1st breath.
and then a more conservative xtian site mansplaining that all those lib interpretations are wrong.

Yeah, the 2nd one is saying the statement is applied to Adam, who wasn’t gestated for 9 months, so can’t necessarily apply to him. That’s where I got that, whereas the Exodus thing is right there in, um, Exodus.
I just find it deeply unsettling that the Bible of all things has been politicized.
Whelp, there ARE those who use the Bible like a drunkard uses a lamppost… not for illumination, but for support.
